Attractions: city sights

Located just south and west of Central Park, it features a monument to explorer Christopher Columbus by Gaetano Russo in 1892. This marble statue of Columbus is on granite column (70 foot high) with bronze reliefs. The three ships depicted on the column represent the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. The surrounding fountain was a gift of George T. Delacorte in 1965.
